How To Make The 2019/20 Tax Year The Time Of Tax Savings As A Sole Trader Pt.1.

A new tax year is officially underway. With it comes the opportunity for you to ensure that the next 12 months are your most tax-efficient yet. With a number of ways you can reduce your tax bill throughout the year, GoSimpleTax’s Technical Director Mike Parkes details the most effective tips to maximise your tax savings. Understand what the tax changes mean for you Each fresh tax year brings changes to how the tax system will work. But, depending on your individual circumstances, not all of these will affect you. For example, if you’re a limited company director, then it’s worth being aware that dividend tax rates remain the same so you won’t be able to further boost your tax efficiency in this way. Or, if you’re now required to submit VAT digitally under MTD for VAT, then you’ll need to ensure you comply with HMRC’s digital path. There are changes…

Movies According To Mischief – Booksmart

Booksmart Directed by Olivia Wilde Cast: Beanie Fieldstein, Kaitlyn Dever This is a film I can relate to, and I dedicate this movie review to all those people who was a social outcast in high school, who were more interested in trying hard and getting good grades than hanging out with class mate and spending the every weekend partying. Oh, just me then? I didn’t really hit the partying scene until college, but even then it was minimal until I moved into the university life. HELLLOOOOOO NIGHT CLUBBING! *boogie wiggle*. So back to the film… Booksmart is very much a story of two best friends, Class President Molly (Beanie Fieldstein) and Amy (Kaitlyn Dever) who have literally avoided any extracurricular socialising events in an effort to maximise their grades and thus reach their individual goals. But when Molly realises that classmates have also managed to achieve places at top universities…

Movies According To Mischief – Red Joan

Red Joan Directed by Trevor Nunn Cast: Judi Dench, Sophie Cookson, Tom Hughes, Stephen Campbell Moore Sometimes you are really in the mood for some drama. But good drama. Something that really draws you in, grabs your attention with such a tight grasp that the cinema could be burning down and you still want to stay in your seat and find out how it ends. Well Red Joan stars the sublime Judi Dench so we are off to a good start already. Based on true events in the life of Melita Norwood, or as she is alternatively known as in the UK, Granny Spy, who during World War Two worked as a Russian spy by passing on British intelligence on building atomic bombs. Joan Stanley’s (Judi Dench/Sophie Cookson) life is much more dramatised in this film than the true real life events, which in total honesty, is shocking enough, but…

Movies According To Mischief – The Curse of La Llorona

The Curse of La Llorona Directed by Michael Chaves Cast: Linda Cardellini, Roman Christou, Jaynee-Lynne Kinchen, Raymond Cruz, Marisol Ramirez So giving you a jump start back into the swing of things, The Curse of La LLorona is a part of the ‘Conjuring’ film universe which include The Conjuring,  The Conjuring 2,  Annabelle and The Nun. Several references are made throughout such as recurring smaller characters, speech about the Warrens and visual clues such a raggedy doll similar to the real life Annabelle doll. With this in mind, you know you are in for a ride of the usual recipe of jump scares and thrilling scenes, which is so up my street. Personally I don’t get scared easily by movies and enjoy this journey this set up in the Conjuring universe, however my cinema cohort spent more time hiding behind their hands and clinging to the cinema ceiling, which I found highly amusing.…

The Best Time To Shop Around For Car Insurance

Shopping around for car insurance is a no brainer. Insurance companies rely on people staying with them and offer their best deals for new customers and those that phone up to try and get a better deal. But did you know there was a best time for shopping around? Research has shown that getting comparitive quotes three weeks before your renewal gives you the best chance of the best price. A few years ago a study revealed that just over a third of car insurance customers “auto renewed” with their existing company without trying to find a more competitive price. It is this passive approach to the car insurance renewal that has also indicated that collectively, customers were paying about £1.3 billion, yes BILLION, more than they should be. A lot of these customers pay by direct debit, and although the renewals are sent out in good time, that time…
