Movies According To Mischief – Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood Directed by: Quentin Tarantino Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Al Pacino Just look at that cast list! Big names for an iconic director. And as I am a fan of things of a slightly more macabre genre, seeing characters like Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie) and a slight glimpse of Charles Manson (Damon Herriman) peaked my interest but also at the same time, I was aware this film wasn’t going to be about The Family or the Tate murders. However, for being at a loose end on a Sunday afternoon, this film is a great shout. I do enjoy Tarantino, he is one of the directors I know off by heart by simply looking at the film and how it is shot, much like Wes Anderson. I cannot also deny at when I saw the running time at 161 minutes, I thought this…

Movies According To Mischief – Horrible Histories: The Movie – Rotten Romans

Horrible Histories: The Movie – Rotten Romans Directed by: Dominic Brigstocke Cast: Emilia Jones, Sebastian Croft, Kate Nash, Nick Frost, Warwick Davis, Sanjeev Bhaskar In my younger days, the most coveted books in primary school was the Horrible Histories collection, by Terry Deary. The gruesome details and fun childish humour are what we craved and to be honest, we probably learnt more through the books than we did through our teachers in History lessons, covering the Stone Age up to the Second World War. I do not know of anyone who has not heard of this collection of books or has not read at least one of them. I was obsessed and would read them over and over again. Now, as I am a little older, I am less appreciative of the fact that the popularity of these books has led to it being made into a TV show. I…

Movies According To Mischief – The Queen’s Corgi

The Queen's Corgi Directed by: Ben Stassen and Vincent Kesteloot, Cast: Jack Whitehall, Julie Walters, Matt Lucas, Sheridan Smith I am a sucker for a good children’s movie, generally of the animation giants of Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks but sometimes a little hidden gem comes along and from the trailer, The Queen’s Corgi looked exactly that. Fun, easy going childish humour, with Jack Whitehall voicing Rex, the Queen’s favourite corgi. As a bit of Jack Whitehall fan I thought this would be a wonderful film to see, and the supporting cast isn’t half bad either with the likes of Julie Walters, Ray Winstone, Matt Lucas and Sheridan Smith. Let's say, sometimes we make mistakes in life, eh?So as a children’s film, the plot is basic. I didn’t realise how basic it would feel. HRH Queen (Julie Walters) has a favourite dog, Rex (Jack Whitehall). Rex seeks adventure, Rex gets lost,…

Movies According To Mischief – Toy Story 4

Toy Story 4 Directed by: Josh Cooley Cast: Woody, Forky, Bo Peep, Buzz Lightyear, Hamm, Mr Potato Head, Mrs Potato Head, Slinky, Rex, Jessie, Bullseye 24 years ago, one of the biggest animation triumphs came to our screens. I was 4 years old and I distinctly remember opening my Christmas presents and finding a copy of Toy Story. There it began. I cannot be the only one in my generation who feels such a closeness with Pixar’s Toy Story franchise. I feel like I am 4 years old again, the cast are old friends, the voices are the same, it’s like a sign of relief at having that familiarity. Also, the Toy Story franchise, unlike many other franchises, does not have a bad movie. Not one. A franchise so treasured, I doubt Pixar wouldn’t dare spoil it with a bad installment.Toy Story (1995) was like an introduction, see the toys…
